This page explains how licensing works for content and code produced by Nautomation Prime.
1. Proprietary Content (All Rights Reserved)¶
The following are proprietary to Christopher Davies, Trading as Nautomation Prime and protected under copyright law:
Protected Intellectual Property¶
- The PRIME Framework (Pinpoint → Re-engineer → Implement → Measure → Empower)
- The PRIME Philosophy (five core principles: transparency, measurability, ownership, safety, empowerment)
- Nautomation Prime branding (logos, visual design, brand assets)
- Consulting methodologies and proprietary business processes

You may view and read this content for personal, educational purposes only.
You may NOT:
- Reproduce, copy, or distribute
- Modify or create derivative works
- Use commercially without written permission
- Claim ownership or authorship

Why We Share These Openly¶
Our educational mission is to empower network engineers. Sharing tutorials under CC-BY means:
- Educators can use these in courses
- Bloggers can cite and build on our content
- Companies can share guides internally
- The knowledge spreads further
We believe transparency and education strengthen the entire automation community.
3. Code Examples & Snippets (Apache License 2.0)¶
The illustrative code examples and snippets we publish for teaching are licensed under:

This includes:
- Code examples tied to our tutorials and technical deep dives
- Code snippets on nautomationprime.io
- Standalone utility examples published purely for education

Note: This covers teaching examples and snippets only. Our complete automation tools (for example the CDP Network Audit, Access Switch Port Audit, Cisco Config Generator, and Cisco IOS-XE Compliance Audit) are premium products — see Section 4 below.
4. Premium Tools (Commercial Licence)¶
Our packaged automation tools are commercial products, not free downloads. When purchased they are provided under a commercial licence:
- Buy a tool as-is (unmodified) under a one-time commercial licence, or
- Commission a customised build tailored to your environment
Licensed source is included with each tool so your team can audit, learn from, and maintain what they run—but the tools are not offered under an open-source licence and may not be redistributed. Request a tool or a quote to discuss licensing and customisation.
5. Bespoke / Consulting Work¶
For paid or commissioned automation projects, code is provided under a custom agreement tailored to the client, typically:
- MIT License (permissive)
- Apache License 2.0 (permissive + patent protection)
- Proprietary License (exclusive to client)
The specific license is negotiated during the project engagement.

7. Quick Reference: What Can I Do With This?¶
The Tutorial Says "Show Command to Excel" — Can I use it in my course?¶
Yes! Tutorials are CC-BY licensed. You can:
- Share the guide with your students
- Include it in course materials
- Adapt it to your teaching style
- Host it on your own platform
Just credit Nautomation Prime and link back if possible.
The CDP Network Audit Tool — Can I get it for our environment?¶
Yes. It's a premium tool. When you purchase it you can:
- Buy it as-is (unmodified) under a commercial licence
- Have it customised to your network as a bespoke engagement
- Audit and maintain it using the licensed source included
The tool is not open-source and may not be redistributed. Request the tool or a quote to get started.
The PRIME Framework — Can I use it in my consulting practice?¶
No. The PRIME Framework is proprietary. However:
- You can read it to understand our approach
- You can apply similar principles to your own work
- You cannot republish or rebrand it
To use the PRIME Framework officially, contact us for a partnership or licensing agreement.
